How awesome are these three ladies?!

I hope you all have a Happy New Year celebration!

helen frankenthaler

Helen Frankenthaler is one of my favorite painters!
She is the only artist I have loved since I was a teenager.
Sadly on Tuesday she passed away. She was such an influential artist, and one of the few female painters in the 50's.
I think her paintings are beautiful and extraordinary!
Barbara Rose wrote of Frankenthaler's gift of, “the freedom, spontaneity, openness and complexity of an image, not exclusively of the studio or the mind, but explicitly and intimately tied to nature and human emotions.”
You can read more about her here.
And I have done a few posts on her in the past, here, here, and here (one of my first posts ever)

The following series of black and white photos are my all time fave! I love seeing her in action, like a ballet dancer. And of course I love everything about the photo above, she was so young, and beautiful, and I love her sitting in the middle (and on!) of all of her paintings. You can see her most well known painting Mountains and Sea on the left.

I love you Helen!

ocean fog

On monday I stayed at the house while everyone went on a sail... and I was reading outside when the fog rolled in.
It was magical!
The light was so beautiful and I couldn't stop snapping photos as the atmosphere changed.
I love the light and the colors and the rainbow.
I felt so lucky to be witness to such a stunning moment of the day.

My family spent the weekend at the beach, just south of Santa Barbara.
It was so beautiful to wake up to the ocean every morning and be lulled to sleep by the waves every night.
And so many stars! I missed you stars!
It was so fun to take walks at low tide with the pups. Ava loved running around with Olive (my brother's dog, who loves the water).
I spent the weekend reading, waking the beach, finding treasures, studying the starfish, and staring at the ocean. I also had fun making pancakes, watching movies and playing board games.
I know all beach photos can start to look the same after a while, so thanks for hanging in there with me. I tried to edit, but it was just so breathtaking.
Speaking of! Wait until you see the photos tomorrow!!

I hope you all had a lovely holiday!

happy holidays

Wishing you a magical and joyous holiday full of warmth and love

paris bombay

I can not get over how stunning the presentation of the Chanel show at the Grand Palais looks!
The new Metiers d’art collection, inspired by India’s Maharajas and lavish palaces. I adore the color palate! And every detail is just so beautiful.

Speaking of, check out this amazing video. The level of craftsmanship just blows my mind.

ice storm

In 2006 I was home for a huge ice storm in IL.
We live in the woods and it was so beautiful the next morning.
Everything covered in ice, every little branch and leaf looked like it was encased in glass. The light reflecting off all of the ice was incredibly stunning.
And the most amazing thing was the sound. All you could hear was the creaks and cracks of the branches breaking from the weight of the ice, and the little branches moving from the breeze, sounding like chimes.
It was a little eerie and yet so beautiful.

I really miss the snow sometimes.
