1940 & 1970

Ever since my Mum passed away, I have been slowly going through her things, and some times I feel like a treasure hunter, and some times a detective! It is a lot of work, but the exciting thing about it is that you never know what you will uncover or find. I have found some pretty amazing things, and they have become some of my most treasured belongings.

When I was home a few weeks ago my Aunt brought over some things that my Great Uncle had given her. One was so amazing I had to share! It is a letter to my grandmother notifying her that she had been accepted to teach Dress Design at Washington University. And this was in 1940! Can you imagine? I just think it is so cool. She also brought a notebook with a few sketches in there my grandmother had done. I feel really lucky to have these. My Nana was an amazing artist. I did a post on her a while back, with some of her paintings, check it out here

Also in the stack of things was an invite to one of my mum's jewelry shows. I couldn't find a date on it, but I am guessing it is from the early to mid 70's. She had a few shows with this artist, Roger Harris, and he always did the invites, that usually folded out into a poster. They are so awesome! You can see another one framed above my bookcase in the photo from this post.
I also love the little blurb she wrote about herself. It's reminds me a lot of things I think about now. She was just the coolest!

here are some other amazing things I have posted that I've found over the past three years: these books, my mum's wedding bouquet and wedding china, this fabulous photo of my mum in the 60's at the race track keep lap times for my dad, and nana's strawberry forks

happy new moon

happy new moon

I love the new moon! I have always just paid attention to when the full moon is, but since I have been paying more mind to all the phases I can really tell a difference in how I am effected by each of them.
During a new moon, I always feel more excited, and energetic... though a little bit off... but in a humorous, light way. I always feel like exciting things are coming into my life and are on the horizon. This is the energy of the new moon, it is about calling things in, a renewal and a beginning... the moon from this point on is becoming full, it is calling in more light every day.
And in a full moon, I feel things more intensely, I don't feel as light, and everything has more weight. A full moon is a good time to let go of things, and during that time I always feel I am being asked or challenged to release, something physical, emotional... and every day the moon is becoming less full, letting go of light.

don't forget to make your new moon wishes

new moon

Thursday, March 22, Aries 10:37 am EDST

We have just come through the Spring Equinox on Monday, this is a powerful time of birth and renewal. This is the most important time of the year to look ahead and set up what you want to bring into your life. Think about if you are just sitting back and going through the motions, or maybe you are trying to manifest things you think you should want, and are judging where you think you should be. Feel into your heart, and honor where you are, and try to be present, and grateful. And be truthful with what you want to call into your life.

We move from this Spring Equinox of renewal into the sign of Aries, which brings, bold, innovative and creative new beginnings. This new moon will give you a boost of energy, and allow you to navigate your life and step into the world with boldness. The energy of Aries creates an opportunity for you to demonstrate your independence. The new moon will offer support in the area of dealing with others, allowing you to be more honest and authentic in all your relationships. It gives us the confidence to begin a new pathway of self expression that we have been longing for.

This is a really exciting, powerful new moon, because it is in the sign of Aries, it is the most potent moon of the year for making wishing that involve new beginnings. On Thursday take some time to think about things you would like to see manifest in your life, especially anything that involves courage, starting a new relationship, or making a new beginning with anything that is important to you: a new partner, job, creative endevor, habit, etc...
Remember that your wishes must be written down onto paper, and ten wishes maximum.
The best time to make your wishes is 8 hours after the exact time of the new moon, but with in the first 48 hours will work.
Do not wish when the moon is void of course.
The best times are as follows:
Thursday, March 22:  10:37 am – midnight
Friday, March 23:  all day and night
Saturday, March 24:  12:01 am – 1:17 pm
( Be sure to check your time zone. )

Also take note that we are in a Mercury Retrograde cycle from March 12th thru April 4th. Here is some information about that.
If you are noticing more miscommunications than usual between you and others, you are not alone.  Mercury, the planet that rules intellectualization and communication, is moving backwards, through the zodiacal backdrop. This is a result of the relationship of the orbits of Earth and Mercury, relative to the orbit of both planets around the Sun.
This is a time when logical, rational, mental processes and communications sometimes seem to break down.  It’s a good idea to develop and express a sense of humor during these cycles. Mercury Retrograde mental malfunctions can be a source of amusement. While these energies may be intense, be sure to breathe and focus on the positive things in your life.

What an exciting time we are in! I encourage you to dream big when making your new moon wishes!
Now is the time to do it!
I also encourage you to share any of you wishes here, in the comments, I would love to read them. And when you put them out there, and share with others, it gives everything more power!

Wishing you much love and new moon magic!

good vibrations

Lately I have been thinking about the power of the voice.

I have long understood the healing power of using your voice, of sharing something and being heard, and how much transformation and healing can take place in that exchange. The trick for me has been unearthing it from years of shyness. I used to speak even more quietly than I do now... and it wasn't until a combination of being in Grad School and also doing the Healer Training (and the breathwork) that I really was forced to be more open with my voice. I had to speak up for myself, to speak my mind and my truth. And it has been so transforming for me in how I value myself by how I use my voice! And not being afraid to use it, and speak up, with out judgment of what I have to say. I think it is so important to trust that what we all have to say needs to be heard.

Thanks to a friend, I have been going to Ecstatic Kirtan Chanting (this is a kind of chanting where it gets faster and faster each repetition = fun) whenever I can. I will be the first to admit that I am pretty much tone def, and am an awful singer, and yet, I love to sing! And for someone like me, chanting (it's really more like singing) in a room of 40 people is perfect! Because I can sing at the top of my lungs but no one can hear me (thankfully for them), haha! It is one of my favorite things to do, and is so much fun. I was at an event over the weekend, sitting there, singing one of my favorite chants, and I put my hands over my heart and felt the vibration of my voice moving through my body, as I was singing as loud as I could. And it hit me! That my body was feeling what I was saying (singing). For me this was such a powerful idea, that the sound of my voice was being felt by my body. It deepened my understanding of the power and impact of the voice, and really made me think about how I use it now, and what I say, knowing it has a more profound effect on everything.

Nature's the greatest designer - Karl Lagerfeld

I couldn't agree with you more KL!

There are so many amazing details, and colors, and shapes, and textures!
I can't get over it!
It is rocking my world (sorry, I couldn't resist the pun). I love his take on crystals; it feels kind of dark and Medieval, mixed with a little Labyrinth, and a touch of Minimalism (the finish fetish artists would swoon over those giant, pristine crystals on the runway)... all done so perfectly and chic...
 like only Chanel can do.
